EEG6500/6550


GAC’s EEG6500 Series digital governor is designed to regulate engine speed on diesel and gaseous reciprocating engines. With flexibility, precision, and accurate control of governed speed, the EEG is designed for industrial engine applications from generator sets and mechanical drives, to pumps or compressors. 

APPLICATION OF THE MONTH:

PN4000 Railyard utility Vehicle – ALR190-KV07 / EEG6500

The PN4000 is specialty vehicle with a 3.331L 4 cylinder Kubota V3307 engine equipped with a GAC ALR190-KV07-12 actuator on the fuel control rack and an EEG6500 digital governor. The vehicle uses a hydrostatic drive and four wheel steering that enables it to maneuver within a five foot turning radius. The digital governor provides two fixed speeds, a 1000 RPM idle, and 2000 RPM “work speed setting” when drive mode is detected, or when the unit is switched to compressor mode.

FAQ:

The team at Governor’s receives many calls about voltage and resistance checks when diagnosing Magnetic Speed Pickups (MSP). A typical Magnetic Speed Pickup signal should be on average: 

  • Approximately better than 1.0 VAC while cranking,
  • Approximately better than 3.0 VAC while running,
  • Average resistance will vary between 160-1200 Ohms depending on type of pick-up.
  • Higher resistance versions are for high output signals.


Some good tips to remember if you are not sure of the MSP integrity:

  • Check all of your readings first,
  • Remove and clean the pickup, check for cracks or chips etc. (replace if necessary),
  • Reinstall the sensor and set the air gap properly at .025”-.035” or 0.64mm- 0.89mm, general rule of thumb is ½ to ¾ turn from bottoming out on flywheel,
  • It is also a good idea to always try and use a shielded pickup cable to be sure it is grounded at the controller end only.
