The 110 Series Integral Actuator is designed to mount directly to DEUTZ 1011 series 2, 3 and 4 cylinder engines in place of the electric stop solenoid and available in 12 and 24 VDC. GAC’s unique linear electromechanical technology provides proportional actuator movement, based on actuator coil current. This unique, optimum fuel control, actuating device will outperform externally mounted types of electric actuators. An integral high performance speed control system results when the 110 Series electric actuator in installed on the engine and electrically connected to complementing governor system components. No external linkages or brackets are required and no extra DEUTZ parts are needed.
APPLICATION OF THE MONTH:  ACD110-12 & 24 Actuator for Deutz 1011 and 2011 Series Engines Replaces Engine Stop Solenoid

The 110 series integral actuator is designed to mount directly to Deutz 1011 and 2011 series 2, 3 and 4 cylinder engines in place of the electric stop solenoid.  It is the best quality proportional linear actuator designed for high temperature operation.

The actuator is in direct contact with the internal fuel control rail, there are no linkages or brackets required and no additional Deutz engine parts needed.  Deutz AG has approved the use of GAC 110 series actuators on their 1011 and 2011 series engines as it’s easy to install and is ideal for variable and fixed speed applications (Compressors, Generator Sets, Pumps, etc.).  Installing the 110 series actuator does not defeat the engine’s mechanical governor operation.  During the installation process, the mechanical governor is set to a higher speed than the electric governor’s operating range, the mechanical governor acts as a maximum speed limiter

The 110 series actuator provides variable and fixed speed control and functions as the engine shut-down device.  When power to the speed control unit is terminated, the return spring on the actuator counteracts the engines internal fuel rack spring forcing the rack to its zero fuel position.  The standard engine fuel shut-off lever remains functional and is not affected by the actuator installation.  The unit is completely sealed from the environment, no maintenance is required.




ACD110 actuators are used on Deutz 1011 and 2011 series 2, 3 and 4 cylinder engines in place of the electric stop solenoid.  The actuator’s lever is in direct contact with, and controls the position of the fuel rack.

If you suspect the actuator is not functioning properly, measure the coil resistance between the actuators terminals.
At room temperature:

1.6 Ohms on a 12 VDC actuator

7.2 Ohms on a 24 VDC actuator

Confirm coil isolation, measure resistance between each individual terminal pins and the actuator’s housing.

>1M Ohm = no continuity

Remove the actuator.  Hold the actuator with the lever side down and manually move the actuator’s shaft through its range by depressing the lever.  There should be no binding, sticking or friction.  Energize the actuator to full fuel (follow steps in the speed control unit publication).  The actuator should operate smoothly throughout its entire stroke without any interruption in motion.

If the actuator passes these tests, the problem is likely elsewhere in the governor or fuel system.  Confirm all wiring and connector terminations, refer to the speed controller’s troubleshooting guidelines.

Note: When using the 110 Series on a Deutz 1011 4 cylinder; the engine should be equipped with Deutz's extra start fuel spring 0417478 which helps with light-load instability and transient performance.

Some applications have experienced engine starting difficulties with an ACD110 actuator when it’s paired with certain controllers.  The ESD2210 speed controller is recommended for use with these 110 series actuators for single speed / standalone applications.  It offers an optimized PID and provides full actuator current immediately during start.

For variable speed or generator paralleling applications, the ESD5528EM governor is recommended for its flexibility and combination of features.  The ESD5528EM also applies full actuator current immediately during start.
