ESD5500E Series
The most popular analog governor in the world, the GAC ESD5500E Series speed controller is our field-proven, versatile governor that can be applied to multiple engine / actuator applications.
It features:
- Isochronous, droop and variable speed operation
- Idle control and speed trim capability
- Starting fuel and speed ramping adjustment
- A +10V accessory supply
- An auxiliary terminal that accepts input signals from load sharing units, auto synchronizers and other governor system accessories
- A soft coupling / lead circuit
It is also marine certified and supports an external potentiometer.
The GAC ESD5500E Series speed controller is available in standard, light force, light force with enhanced droop control and with an anti-wind-up circuit for optimum control of gaseous-fueled engines using GAC’s integrated actuator / throttle bodies, universal or linear actuators.
The following versions are available:
- ESD5500E Multi-V DC / Standard Unit
- ESD5520E Multi-V DC / Light-Force (Low-Current Optimized PID) / Enhanced Droop
- ESD5522E Multi-V DC / Light-Force (Low-Current Optimized PID) / Enhanced Droop for Cummins EFC Forward Acting (Normally Closed)
- ESD5526E Multi-V DC / Light-Force (Low-Current Optimized PID) / Anti-Windup Circuit (Gaseous) / Recommended for T1/T2 ATBs
- ESD5528E Multi-V DC / Anti-Windup Circuit (Gaseous)
An Irrigation Solution by PSS Governor Services
Dave Pearson, owner of PSS Governor Services, spends a lot of time rebuilding governor systems. His base of operations in sunny southern California puts him firmly in the maritime business, spending much of his time rebuilding governors for very large ships.
This year found him working with a customer on an irrigation project that brought GAC into the solution, using the ESD5526E speed controller paired with a GAC 65 mm ATB.
Taking advantage of the ESD5526E’s wide speed range to allow for variable speed adjustment, and using an adapter plate developed by PSS, made quick work of getting the customer online.
FAQs: Your Questions, Answered!
Working with a QST30
The 30.5L V12 Cummins QST30 engine uses a Cummins PCC controller and a Bosch EDC actuator mounted on each injection pump. Because this control system is not easily accessible, adjustments and service are difficult.
We have an alternative, cost-effective solution using ADD175F actuators on each pump with a simple adapter kit to allow easy access to controls. However, we have found that some variations on the Bosch pump do not accept this GAC solution.
The following points out the differences; however, for best results, please call the application engineers at GAC.
Supported by the GAC Solution
The following is supported by the GAC solution:
1. The actuator extends from the top quarter of the pump (not the center).
2. The governor housing is composed of two removable parts—the spring assembly and the oil sump. Each section can be removed separately.
Configuration Not Supported By The Gac Solution
1. The actuator extends from the center of the pump.
2. The governor housing uses one cover over the oil sump and the spring. The cover is one piece and must be removed in its entirety.
